Maybe Senator Norm Coleman (R) won a key ruling today in his battle with Maybe Senator Al Fraken (D). A three judge panel voted to allow consideration of 4,800 previously rejected ballots. Since the margin between the two candidates is just 225 votes, Coleman would not have to win the counting of these ballots by much to shift the race back in his favor. Franken had fought against counting/reviewing the ballots so this is something of a setback to him.
At the same time we don’t know where the ballots came from (though presumably if Coleman wanted them reviewed and Franken did not they must be thought to lean towards Coleman). In addition the court ruling suggests that the process will consider the ballots to be invalid unless proved otherwise, so it’s a bit more of a burden that just reviewing them.
And of course even if they do review the ballots and it does shift the lead back to Coleman, Franken presumably has his own set of lawsuits ready to go.
Maybe Minnesota will have a Senator by 2010 ?
If they want, they could just give me the seat till then to save the wear and tear of court battles (heck neither Coleman or Franken were born in Minnesota, so why not me ?)
