This is my 2nd post in the A-Z challenge. In deciding to do the challenge I also decided to post on topics that I would not ordinarily discuss.
That brings us to the topic of Buddhism, although I personally am a Christian but I like to say that I speak it with a bit of a Buddhist accent.
What do I mean by that ?
Well I am not an actively practicing Buddhist as I adhere to Christian doctrines. But there are general principles which I find appealing and which I try to apply to my faith in a way that i think actually serves to more deeply affirm my faith.
For example the concept that things happen for a reason. I don’t go so far as to think God is up there planning every moment of my life but I do believe that there is a purpose behind key events in my life. This is a concept well in line what Buddhist thought.
There is also a broad tolerance in Buddhism for a variety of viewpoints. You can hold your own views as being correct yet at the same time hold a respect for other views and recognize they are as strongly held as your own.
There is a serenity to Buddhism that I find comforting. I don’t quite sit down and meditate but I often do try to take that moment to focus on what is important and let go of what is not. I’ve been told this is very Buddha.
In short I try to take the strengths of the two worldviews and use the one to strengthen the other.
So what about you ?
Are you member of one faith who uses the tenets of another to help in your spiritual voyage ?
Or are you a person of no faith who still finds the views of a faith (or faiths) to be helpful ?
