UPDATE: It’s raining again so the winner is Dario Franchitti, who is somehow a Scotsman. Took the checkered flag after 166 laps when it began pouring. Here’s the official AP coverage.
UPDATE: The rain has stopped and they are drying the track – this takes awhile.
UPDATE: The Race has been stopped after 113 laps due to rain. It’s possible that it may be restarted if the rain stops and they can dry the track while it’s still daylight. Leaders are Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick.

When I was a little kid, my mother’s best childhood friend lived in Indianapolis and we went to visit one Memorial Day Weekend. I was distressed because I didn’t get to go to The Race along with my parents and their friends. Fast Forward: I moved to Bloomington Indiana in 1976 to go to college and moved to Indianapolis in 1979 and Cincinnati in 2000. 24 years in Indiana and I never bothered to go to The Race. Why? I hate crowds. I don’t mind listening to it on the radio or watching it on TV (ABC this year). It’s still a classic and is one way to learn about America.
All those years in Indianapolis, the traffic is goofed-up during the entire month of May, especially on the West Side. I could hear the cars at the track from some of the apartment complexes I used to live in.
Nowadays, I worry about terrorism during events such as this.
