Reports out of Cairo this morning that former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik is to be named the winner of the recent Presidential election. The reports state he won 50.7% of the vote to 49.3% for Mohamed Morsy of the Muslim Brotherhood.
If true this is likely to spark protests from Morsy supporters who say that he won the election.
It may also be a sign that the military is moving to take even firmer control of the country as Shafik would be relying on the army to stand up to the Muslim Brotherhood. It also would likely mean a more stable foreign policy from Egypt.
