With full credit to SNL for coming up with the commentary concept I have a few thoughts on the news today.
Driving home I caught the noon news and the first words I heard were “In our top story today Tiger Woods” (this on CNN Radio but I assume all are the same).
So let’s consider that statement.
On the international scene what is going on ?
War in Iraq and Afghanistan
Iran on the verge of being a nuclear power
A coup in Niger (a major supplier of uranium)
Possible instability in North Korea
An economic crisis in Europe (IE Greece)
And none of these stories are more important than words from a serial adulterer… REALLY ?
On the domestic scene what is up ?
The economy
The plane attack on the IRS building in Austin
The health care debate
Pretty much every state with a budget crisis
And still the most important thing is Tiger Woods reading a prepared statement… REALLY ?
In Vancouver we have uplifting stories from the Olympics. The success of Evan Lysacek, the mini comeback of Jeremy Abbott, the US team breaking, in some cases, decades long droughts in medal categories and setting new records for numbers of medals.
But you still think the MOST IMPORTANT story for us to hear is about Tiger… REALLY ?
No wonder I sometimes feel like Honorius watching the last hill of Rome….
