PLA Wants To Attack US Via Economy

Just a sign that having massive debt might not be a good thing.

And before we get into the partisan battle I blame both sides of the aisle but I am sure many will disagree.

And while Rome burns….

“Its a fine situation you've gotten me into Ollie”.

Both sides, American greed and lack of common sense have gotten us into this situation. We all just had to have that Chinese made big screen TV. Me included.

  2. Father_Time says:

Well at least the PLA represents a government that represses the gay sexual immorality. Clearly we will have to be more like them to appease them, and, since they own us, we must appease them. May I suggest adopting similar anti-gay morality laws as the first diplomatic offering?

  3. Silhouette says:

“Our retaliation should not be restricted to merely military matters, and we should adopt a strategic package of counter-punches covering politics, military affairs, diplomacy and economics to treat both the symptoms and root cause of this disease,” said Luo Yuan, a researcher at the Academy of Military Sciences.

“Just like two people rowing a boat, if the United States first throws the strokes into chaos, then so must we.”

Luo said Beijing could “attack by oblique means and stealthy feints” to make its point in Washington.

“For example, we could sanction them using economic means, such as dumping some U.S. government bonds,” Luo said.

The warnings from the PLA come after weeks of strains between Washington and Beijing, who have also been at odds over Internet controls and hacking, trade and currency quarrels, and President Barack Obama's planned meeting with the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan leader reviled by China as a “separatist.”

Now who said it first? Iran distracts and harasses, China moves in from behind. We should refrain from giving them excuses in the eyes of the world, however they are looking for excuses so this game could get dicey.

The Bush “adiminstration” got us into this mess. Britain wants to roast Bush/Cheney and the gang. If we roast them, this may pacify the Chinese for a time but methinks the BigOil war machine has gaffed us too deep. They profited well though so this should be our consolation as we begin to prepare for confrontations.

I must say I am amazed at the ability of some to turn anything into a 'gays are gonna get me' thread..

    Wow

  6. DLS says:

Patrick, I suspect the Chinese are going to wait and see what the Dems in DC do just as the rest of us do. That includes how they may react to what may start getting worse with the economy in Europe (the possible Greek default and the European bailout of Greece, is how the story is going so far there) and if the concerns reach the markets and the systems here.

I will say, though, that I wonder not only about — no, not the gays that are coming to get us and attempt to modify the hetero gene pool with the Gay Gene, but rather about the Asian carp and the long-horned beetle. Is it confirmed these were introduce to this nation accidentally or negligently?

    [insert ominous musical passage]

Patrick – I fear F_T has been 'Axelized', i.e., no longer desiring of or capable of give-and-take discussions, and only looking to cause reactions.

In a word, yet another troll.

  8. GeorgeSorwell says:

Quote from the article linked by Patrick:

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) plays no role in setting policy for China's foreign exchange holdings. Officials in charge of that area have given no sign of any moves to sell U.S. Treasury bonds over the weapons sales, a move that could alarm markets and damage the value of China's own holdings.

  9. Father_Time says:

    Yes Prof.

Sad state of affairs. Borrowing from our sworn enemies to pay for never ending wars that we cannot afford. Meanwhile, our elected representatives meander aimlessly in endless conflagrations.

  10. shannonlee says:

True, but China lent us too much. Now they are too economically tied to us to cause us pain without hurting themselves. A bank will foreclose on a home owner, take their home, and eat the loss. A bank will not foreclose on a multi-billion business that they have lent hundreds of millions of dollars. The loss would kill the bank.

Our debt has become China's crack habit.

  11. ProfElwood says:

Our debt has become China's crack habit.

    Who's dealing to whom?

Yes, it would hurt both of us. But the US is no better off than a person who is living above their means. Every debt habit explodes to the point where interest exceeds the available money supply. It's not really the current debt that is the trouble, but the addition to borrowing.

What in the world was so offensive about my post, a straight-forward reply to Patrick with nothing hateful, simply an expression my opinion and observations, that it was deemed SO inflammatory that it needed to be edited???

Especially in light of the attack-mode, insulting and degrading comments by Axel, and others, that seem to be in no need of censorship?

Did someone REALLY flag my post as abusive, or was this an 'editor's choice' decision?

for all commenters: We ask all commenters to read the Commenter's rules at the head of the home page of TMV. This is an excerpt. TMV is a privately owned site. The commenters rules have been in place since its inception years ago, with a strong eye toward keeping the site a place of civility and passionate debate. That goal has been acheived for the most part by the cooperation of commenters and co-bloggers at TMV, and is appreciated. No one on staff is Mom or Dad or Big Brother. Just a bunch of hardworking unpaid bloggers who give tons of time to the TMV site, and understand there are literally millions of sites elsewhere where commenters rules may or may not be different or nonexistent. Debate, discuss, teach at TMV, and… here are some of the very few rules for civility at TMV

…(6) All points of view are welcome on The Moderate Voice, with the following exceptions:

    (a) Comments posted several times a day with the intent of dominating, re-directing or hijacking the thread by turning a discussion into the equivalent of a bitter shouting match, or comments going off-topic thereby interrupting those who are discussing the post’s content.

    (b) Comments that use name-calling, or that insult or attack commenters or blog-writers, or repeatedly make the same point with the effect of clear intent to annoy other commenters or blog-writers.

    (7) Name-calling, ad hominem attacks (personal attacks), racist and/or sexist comments, or use of profanity or vulgarity by any commenter, whether they are by persons who agree or disagree with the views expressed by The Moderate Voice, will NOT be tolerated and will result in the deletion of the comment and the banning of the commenter’s ISP address, without notice. In some cases a comment may be deleted, the commenter warned, and given another chance. Commenters who virtually ASK The Moderate Voice to ban them by ignoring any warnings or daring TMV to ban them will quickly get their wish.

    (8) Anonymous commenters should identify themselves with the same moniker, so readers know their comments are coming from a single individual. If they don’t, they are subject to a banning.

(9)If we have problems with inappropriate or inflammatory comments from a commenter who it turns out gave a fake email address, that person is subject to immediate banning.

  16. Schadenfreude_lives says:

I stick with my shock that my comment was deemed necessary of editing due to being such a gross violation of the rules, given what else has been posted here by others and accepted as within the bounds of the rules.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one, dr. e.

  17. archangel says:

“…Especially in light of the attack-mode, insulting and degrading comments by …others, that seem to be in no need of censorship?”

We are unable to monitor day and night, but do catch up to what's going on when matters veer off track. thanks Schadenfreude and I see the head's up.

To commenters in general: As I posted yesterday and the day before on other articles, please follow the commenters rules for TMV to keep our comment threads civil. It would help my job greatly since I get the big bucks at TMV (exactly $0 ) if commenters would ignore those who veer off topic or attack writers or commenters. Ask for a moderator to take a look at it, and it will be done.

Again, thanks for understanding and for keeping TMV a place of intelligent debate and discussion and teaching.

    dr.e

  18. archangel says:

thanks Schadenfreude, and just this, re “given what else has been posted here by others and accepted as within the bounds of the rules…” It isnt. As I mentioned, thanks for the head's up.

I have to admire his annoying persistence. Now, if we could only harness that energy to eliminate oil usage and make Sil. happy. LOL

  20. dduck12 says:

intelligent debate and discussion and teaching.”

Please don't tighten the rules too much.. I need a certain amount of kidding (OK, insulting lite) to spice up the comment stew which is often quite bland. It is the sadist in me, and if suppressed might cause me to erupt in more abhorrent behavior, like becomes a Dem., or worse one of FT's party.
