Haiti Death Toll Could Be Massive

Obviously at this point any speculation about the death toll in the Haitian earthquake is just that, speculation. But reports from the Haitian government are talking about hundreds of thousands of deaths. In the past speculation about tolls this high have often turned out to be overstated but in this case given that the quake shattered a city of several million people there is a good chance that they numbers could be accurate.

In any case the disaster is clearly one of epic proportions and it is one that will require many months or years for the people to recover.

If you want to help CNN has a list of on site relief agencies you can contribute to.

This is going to be really bad. Everybody is on their way without money in the bank to do anything for very long. Money is needed. Lets start stepping up.

500,000 plus is what I heard.

I just hope there isn't violence that develops among the survivors, to compound the misery there.

CNN's Sanjay Gupta's interview with the Haitian president was pretty poor. At least they could have had a French translator.

One more question about CNN; Who is this guy calling for a “State of Emergency” to be called for Haiti? What difference does it make and why does it rate national news for some unknown someone to call for this?

One complaint about CNN; Rick Sanchez. I have never experienced any anchor rattle more useless commentary around so little information in my entire life.

CNN is not only Clearly Not Neutral (typical lib media), but is often lightweight as well. I had the “pleasure” of watching some CNN last year when I was in Michigan. Ugh. Typical modern lightweight lib media Herd junk. The puppy love over Obama was sickening. They even were producing (it may be unkind to say “writing”) books and selling them on CNN, including Sanjay Gupta's book.

Sanchez is a blowhard. Gupta is just a pretty-faced teevee celebrity. (early Obama Surgeon General candidate — teevee appeal! ugh)

I get news on-line. I don't normally watch TV, and when on the road I prefer to listen to talk radio, more lefty than righty these days. (The lefties often are more interesting, and Limbaugh is still good, but other righties are just copycats definitely below Limbaugh; plus the lefties have the most interesting remarks currently, in trying to analyze or explain the Dems' stumbling over health care legislation currently. The talk shows are on network outlets and I get lightweight but marginally acceptable news each hour, too.)

    DLS, you are wacked.

    “you are wacked”

Tell it to Harrison.  He provides food for thought, though, if you're capable and willing sometime.

    So true…

Walter Cronkite was “lightweight” and that’s what I like.

Uh huh… agree. Sad how nowadays one must be left or right, everyone fits in a box. Pay taxes or benefit from taxes. Religious or agnostic. Tree hugger or cutter. White or not. Hop in your box, and stop thinking, have everything mouth fed to you from a regurgitating sycophant on the boob tube.

Folks have collectively lost the ability to judge each event, situation, issue, whatever – pragmatically and in isolation, based on the facts. Ethically, practically, logically, rationally. It's nice to see some striped people are still left, DLS.

Thanks.  Stripes — that's an interesting way to name it.
