Poll Says Obama Support Weakening, But Still Over 50%

DOWN_ARROW.jpgA recent poll shows that support for President Obama’s economic programs is weakening. While 56% still say they think his policies will help the economy that is a big drop from the 72% he had in an earlier poll. He has also seen his ‘tax and spend’ label grow by 11% and six in ten surveyed do not support additional stimulus spending.

While clearly 56% is still a solid support level for Obama the drop is pretty significant and it does look like he will have trouble pushing through his stimulus package. I also suspect this will make it harder for him to keep up the theme of rushing to pass the health care program as voters seem to want to take a better look.

Obviously this does not mean that he is somehow doomed, far from it. But the early days where it looked like he would be able to move through major changes do seem to have ended, at least for now.

If Obama doesn’t get a handle on Goldman and its minions, this will continue to be just another administration in the hands of Goldman Sachs. … What an inside track. Goldman has an uncommon grasp of the joystick.

….. And Obama’s “favorable” numbers will resemble Bush’s.

-Democrats pushing for health care reform got serious jolts last week from critics who warned that their proposed legislation would 'do little to slow spiraling health care costs'. A group of conservative Democrats vowed that they would join Republicans-

Doesn't this happen to every President?

  4. DLS says:

This isn't surprising. Even those who are aren't the brightest are starting to realize the Dems are rushing to do too much wrong, too soon. (Those who still view Obama as magical don't merit any consideration.)

“Doesn't this happen to every President?”

In the sense that the newness, the honeymoon, has ended, yes. But that's far from the whole story, obviously, even among those obscessed with Obama (and susceptible to overreacting to the obvious loss of public confidence with regard to spending and interventionism that shouldn't surprise anybody at all).

  5. GeorgeSorwell says:

Obama is still way ahead of Republicans on the issues of health care, the deficit and the economy in general.

  6. DaGoat says:

Not really fair to say he's “tax and spend”. So far he's just been spend and spend.
