Sullivan quotes a Dish reader:
It’s not proper to display the flag to have it draped over a chair. Just imagine the outrage on Fox News if there was a photo of Obama and an improper display of the Stars and Stripes!
He points to an online guide to flag etiquette “which Palin clearly violates” and observes:
I’m not a stickler for this kind of thing, and don’t think it’s that big a deal, but many are, especially Palinites. And my reader is right. If Obama had done this, it would be non-stop on Fox.
Do we agree?
Two things:
1. This woman actually thinks that she has a chance at becoming President. She has been labeled an idiot by nearly the entire country including her own party, yet in her mind she is legend.
2. She thinks that she is attractive. Well, she does have Old Glory there ready to thrown over her face.
If nothing else this shows the left wingnuts are as petty as the right.
If Obama had done this, it would be non-stop on Fox.
Of course it would. And no doubt his supporters would say how petty this is to even be discussing. We would have the exact same discussion; its just that the parties would switch sides.
I guess Sullivan's quest to uncover the secret plot about Palin's child has no effect on his credibility when he has anything to say about Palin. Perhaps we could be entertained to a Guest Voice by Michael Reagan complaining about Obama's citizenship. Or better yet, someone can post about the “real story” about the twin towers falling down.
The only thing that bothers me about this is that it obviously a posed picture. It would have taken five seconds to drape the flag properly, which is generally common sense. It's a mystery why someone would want to court a public outcry – unless they truly believe that there is no such a thing as bad PR.
Let's just hope Joe Biden doesn't want to get in on the sex symbol game.
I heard today speculation that the UFOs that “disabled nuclear missile silos” may launch an attack if we bomb the moon, as we are apparently planning to do.

I don't actually have the impression that a lot of people are really aware of the nuances of the Flag Code, or care. (I am taking as evidence of this, by the way, my experience of living in the US in late 2001, in which effectively everybody had a flag and effectively nobody displayed it in a way I found not grating on the nerves due to my own moderate Flag Code fetishism.)
Mostly that photo leaves me at 'Shrug. It's not touching the floor.'
I agree with what Jchem said, including what he said about Sullivan's credibility.
Yes, many are sticklers for that sort of thing. I call them lunatics.
Of course it would. And no doubt his supporters would say how petty this is to even be discussing. We would have the exact same discussion; its just that the parties would switch sides.
jchem, it wouldn't be the exact same discussion, because nobody on the Left *really* thinks that Palin's disrespect of the flag means that she's anti-American, communist, terrorist, or any of the other epithets thrown at Obama. A picture such as this with Obama would serve as “proof” of every right-wing conspiracy theory out there. The only “proof” that the left draws from this picture is that she's careless.
I've posted my opinion before to lots of backlash. But here goes… To those of you who expound so emotionally and negatively about Sarah Palin, if you want her to go away, then stop writing about her! Her only claim to the front page is the vitriol of those against her. She continues to play us like cheap fiddles. Ignore her, and she will wither away.
I can't believe this is on TMV.
I can't believe it has 10 comments.
My inner Id saw the legs and had to click. That's my excuse

I used to run. Maybe I need to start again and offer to go running with her, leaving Sullivan to snivel stupidly about torture again on the Diane Rehm show on NPR.
