Pelosi in Her Own Words

As regular readers know, I’m among the Republican defectors recently highlighted by Gallup. But while there’s no love lost between the Grand Old Party and me, Speaker Pelosi entirely deserves this one, courtesy of the House Republican Conference.

Granted, House Republicans didn’t have to work very hard. Pelosi handed the noose to them and then jumped up on the hangman’s platform. Given which, it may be time for the Democrats backing her to rethink their support.

   Isn't this just a commercial?

   Isn't this just more Republican spin?

   Why would anyone find this persuasive, if they didn't already think it was true?

   Ah, maybe they would look at and listen to Ms. Pelosi and determine, using only a modicum of common sense, that she is lying her ass off.

   George, save yourself some time and embarrassment by not bothering to defend her on this. She lying. You know it, everyone knows it.

   In my case, you're a terrible mind-reader. I'll leave up to others how much common sense you have.

   Nancy Pelosi has good back-up for her story.

   Here's my thinking on Pelosi, from a previous comment:

   Pelosi has backup for her side of the story.

   You could say her response–by the time she knew what was going on, Jane Harman had her job on the Intelligence Committee, so she encouraged Harman to write a letter of complaint to the CIA–was pretty limp. I think it was pretty limp, especially after her ringing claim that she knew nothing and wouldn't have stood for anything if she had known. But maybe that letter was as far as they could go, legally. And I think the torture program ended soon after it started–maybe the complaining helped that to happen?

   But the very idea that (so far) Pelosi is as big a liar as the torture gurus is a bunch of bull.

   However, that claim satisfies our Limboids endless desire to call her a liar (about anything and everything), just as it suits the hobgoblin notion of balance our dumb media endorses.

   But as I said up there, so far.

   It wouldn't surprise me to eventually learn that Pelosi did know more and do less. So far, however: NOT.

   I'm willing to be proved wrong, but I still want to see the evidence.

   Investigate.

   Really, Jwest, you're gonna find that in this world people sometimes have pretty good reasons for disagreeing with you.

   While the left seems able to recognize the spokespersons who do a poor job on the right wing (Cheney, Limbaugh, etc) they are unable to recognize the poor ones in their own ranks. Even if Pelosi is telling the truth she still comes across as confused.

   In fact, I agree with DaGoat that Pelosi did verbally fumble that press conference.

   It doesn't maker a liar, though, any more than Limbaugh's resonant voice makes him a truthteller.

   Most of the time when people behave as nervously as Pelosi did, George (particularly in contrast to the way she normally speaks with confidence), it's because they're lying. I've been unable to come up with any other explanation for her skittish mannerisms. Do you have any possible explanations?

   I could easily enough leave it at that. But I don't think much of this kind of mind-reading.

   Do you ever watch C-SPAN, CStanley? If you did, you'd know the Congress is not full of fabulous orators. Oh my, most definitely not!!

   As indicated and linked above, Pelosi has backup for her story.

   Let's start the criminal investigations. Then when we won't have to rely on Body Language “Experts” because we'll have documents and evidence.

   If one steps back from the auto-defense bunker for just a minute, it's pretty clear that she is, at the very least, incredibly rattled.

   So much so that, had she merely been giving a recipe for her favorite pound cake, I'd be compelled to go with the tried and true recipe on the back of the box instead.

   In all honesty, I haven't a clue who's telling the truth here. However, I think Pelosi is badly damaged, politically — and a Speaker with a serious credibility problem is a real liability, not just for her personally, but for the Democrats as a whole.

    As I said above, Pelosi certainly fumbled the press conference.

    As to her political damage, I'm aware that she's unpopular according to recent polls.

    However, a recent Rasmussen poll has also shown that a slim plurality of the public believes Pelosi over the CIA.

    Pelosi's not the only one with credibility problems.

    I imagine any Democrat who served in the House during the torture years would have problems. Not to mention any Republicans.

    I'm only saying that from what we know right now, we can all only go on our impressions and hers was beyond horrible. That and it's not in character for her to behave that way, so something doesn't smell right.
