A Massive Psychosis of Stupidity

Centuries from now, the world will look back at a relatively small but very noisy cult-like faction of people who for reasons unknown, fell victim to a massive psychosis of stupidity that made them do things like taking the “RedState Pledge“:

Tomorrow is something called Earth Hour Take the official RedState Pledge:

I do solemnly swear that I will honor Earth Hour by turning on every light in my residence at 8:30 p.m. on March 28, 2009, for one hour. God said, “Let there be light.” Who are we to argue?

Yeah, they want you to turn your lights off, but everybody knows darkness leads to crime.

BTW, if you can’t turn on all your lights tomorrow night, you should at least take a leisurely drive to spew fossil fuels into the atmosphere or eat a nicely grilled (on charcoal) animal of some kind.

More stupid over here. And still more over here. And here. And God help us — here, too (and it’s not Hillary Clinton).

The stupidity lies with the turning off of lights and other uses of electricity and for that matter, energy of various kinds, of course. This is simply recycled, regurgitated left-lunacy; it is a big matter of debate which is of greater absolute value, but the swarms of ignorant people I have seen on television right now engaging in massive Spring Break festivities, with great use of energy as well as having parties as if there were no bogus "crisis" peddled by the stupid, at least are more normal and lack the neurosis or psychosis of the activist crowd and their surrounding cloud of Useful Idiots.

Global warming, which is not a surprise to many of us and hasn't been for decades (see source at end of posting for a good example), not only from large-scale combustion and land degradation since the start of the Industrial Revolution but because we're in an interglacial period and would do better in large part to be warmer rather than be colder and face another Ice Age) is not, to some of us, still, an excuse for idiocy as well as a handy-handle for the same old, failed, predictable, collectivist and authoritarian "solutions" to the latest contrived "crisis" of the moment. (Sadly, "global warming," "climate change," or whatever the next phrase used in its place will be, has staying power as a celebrity-activism cause for the stupid.)

Some of us, who have always relied on sound, proven sources for climate such as Koppen and Trewartha (a household USA name to those of us who aren't ignorant on the subject), can appreciate what someone decades ago like Flohn ("Climate and Weather" -- didn't your library, too, have that book?) had to say about global warming and how it may leave some places (much of eastern North America included, not to mention so much of Canada) better off rather than worse off even as it drastically ruins life in other parts of the world. (Don't screech, don't squirm, GROW UP and simply look at the consequences, both good and bad.)

Everyone knows or should know Trewartha,

    and

look here for this, by Flohn, to put warming at a realistic extreme in its perspective. (Note that rather than speculation and hype and sensationalism, it looks back for guidance at historical experience when climate was warmer than it is now, among other things.)

At least try, and simply by trying, you certainly beat psychosis.

Which stupid would that be, the stupid of turning on lights or the stupid of turning them off?
  • skylights
    The stupid, it burns...

I sure wish this whole subject could be evaluated without political rhetoric. The moment that Global Warming is brought up, both ends of the spectrum trot out their bias. True believers of each meme destroy rational and constructive debate.

Politics is to Science what Religion is to Government.
Parochial ideology based in the former merely degrades the principals of the latter.

    *puts on thinking cap*

Hmmm...now who would stand to profit by encouraging people to burn energy?

*answers own question about the identity of the creators of "the RedState Pledge* [rhymes with "RigFoil"]

During hard times the great generation bought war bonds, recycled tin cans and grew Victory Gardens. These nuts listen to drug addled Rush Limpbaugh in a basement...
  • DaGoat
I chose to observe both the RedState pledge and Earth Hour last night by completely forgetting about both of them.

Too many hours spent listening to Rush, Sean & Laura...

    It'll rot your brain away.

Jesus Christ. Why don't they just shit in their own drinking water as well? I mean, how oppositional-defiant can you get?

Willful ignorance and stupidity boldly rushing into the 21st century! God help our species...
