Geithner Confirmed, Sworn In As Treasury Head

The Senate voted today to confirm Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary by a margin of 60 to 34. While this was a clear margin of victory the 34 no votes were rather high for a Cabinet nominee. While most of the yes votes came from Democrats and most of the no votes from Republicans there were some notable crossovers.

Senators Harkin and Sanders (two of the most liberal members of the body) broke with Obama to oppose the nomination while  Senators Hatch and Shelby (two more conservative members) voted in favor of the nomination. Geithner has since been sworn in to office.

We still have the Attorney General and Commerce Secretary votes pending (indeed the Commerce post has not been filled following the withdrawal of Governor Richardson). This led some to comment that Obama has had more trouble filling his cabinet than any President since Carter.

Isn't that ironic, because everyone was talking about, “Oh, he's had the easiest time yet.” And somehow, shit happened. So everyone says, “Oh, it's just only the worst thing *ever*.” Offering further proof to me of my theory of prediction: Whenever a lot of people say, “Oh, it's this,” look for “that”.

So, I guess the whole ” I forgot” thing works after all!

I definitely don't trust Geithner right now. Here's hoping he performs well.
