John McCain’s Neverending War

YouTube Preview Image

One of the lines that McCain loves to repeat is that he has been among the harshest critics of the way in which the Bush Administration managed the Iraq War prior to the surge.

Oddly enough, that sentiment didn’t come through during the countless speeches and interviews he gave, in which he praised George Bush, Dick Cheney, and even Donald Rumsfield for this administration’s handling of the Iraq War.

Did McCain ever really criticize anything the Bush administration did in Iraq until very recently?

It doesnt matter. Soon it will be Obama's never ending war. He will just escalate the war in Afghanistan, pull in Pakistan the minute he conducts any raids into their country and voilla we have a regional conflict.

One of the reasons that GWB was able to get reelected was the huge talking point going around in 2004 was that we should be attacking Pakistan instead of Iraq because the Democrats needed leverage in the war on terror.

Their leverage was OBL and hence the belief that he is in the mountains of Pakistan. So lets start razing the villages in Pakistan to find one man. Lets prevent those evil Taliban from taking control of Afghanistan again and enslaving its citizens.

So its more of a failed, losing position that we all laughed at. ARe you serious. Go after Pakistan who has nukes and is teetering on becoming the next Iran? Americans ultimately rejected that ploy but now guess what.

The democrats and Barak Obama are back. Lets escalate Afghanistan and lets raze Pakistan villages to get that evil OBL.

I'm shouting my Objections and the left won't be silenced. They want a turn in the murder mill. Now we get to see how many they can kill, maim and destroy. Hasn't there been enough killing over 911?

McCain is not a proponent of never[-]ending war.

Most in Washington and in this country were in favor of the war in Iraq and defended Bush and others against the most rude, stupid attacks through the 2004 elections. Rude and stupid attacks as well as legitimate attacks on the conduct of the war (actually, now, the occupation) continue and in no way does refutation of them constitute "warmongering" or a desire for War Forever.

"Soon it will be Obama's never ending war. He will just escalate the war in Afghanistan, pull in Pakistan the minute he conducts any raids into their country and voilla we have a regional conflict. [...] Lets escalate Afghanistan and lets raze Pakistan villages to get that evil OBL."

Actually, there's a good chance that the assets removed from Iraq (which could be done in too hasty a manner) won't be redirected to Afghanistan, but brought home, and after Obama is in office, he might start withdrawing forces in Afghanistan, too; his speech in Europe tonight supposedly will request a bigger contribution from the European nations and we might see a drawdown of our forces eventually to levels no larger than other nations' forces, or in some proportion to them. I also would foresee with Obama and the Dems a less-dirty and probably less effective reduction in ground force efforts replaced by ("stand-off," safer) air strikes. Not that Obama will become necessarily another "revolution in military affairs, hi-tech wizardry, war on the cheap when it comes to ground forces" Rumsfeld.

Who does Obama want for his Secdef, incidentally?

Under the guise of "national service" [cringe], might Obama institute a draft?

While Shaun Mullen frets about there not being enough scandal in the news about Edwards's private life, I'm frustrated that htere isn't more coverage of the scandelous McCain campaigm.

He lies about his own past record, about the verifiable events before the surge,, and even denies that he has said what he has said. on the record.
The 'liberal;' media never call him on it. CBS even doctored the video to cover up for him.

While Obama's every word gets parsed fifteen different ways, McCain is getting away with a very ugly and scurrilous campaign in front of the media's noses, without a peep as reaction.
Recently McCain claimed oil prices came down because we (read:McCain) started talking about drilling. Yet talking as an energy solution hasn't received a shred of the laughing response it deserves.

McCain's foreign policy expertise is based exclusively on the surge, and even the details of that are beyond his comprehension. Before that, however, McCain was a slavish suppoerter of the Bush-Cheny-Rumsfeld brand of war in Iraq.
    Where was his expertise then?

He should look up Afghanistan on a map before dispensing his expertise on that, btw.
  • Neocon
So what is the energy solution?

WALK TO WORK? Thats the democrats response to the energy crisis.

    Good plan Obama.
  • runasim
Walking or bicycling to a nearby store, as one example, is not only a good energy solution, it's also a good economic and health solution.

The beauty of Obama's plan is that it overarches many different issues, including future prospects, instead of McCain's single issue by single issue, short sighted plans for anything and everything.

Another of McCain's energy plans was the short sighted, single issue plan to reduce gas prices by giving drivers a gas tax holiday. Since the highway construction and maintenance fund is already short of money, his plan raises the specter of increased gas taxes to cut the shortfall.
But wait, taxes are evil, so McCain and friends don't mind filling up their tanks with cheap gas only to find there are no roads on which to drive.

I'm sure there is a VICTORY and a DEFEAT in his plan, as well, to cover up the gaping holes in logic and intellectual scope.

At least Obama is honest enough not to claim immediate results or an easy fix.
He is not short sighted, thank heavens.
  • Neocon
Well Thanks Runasim for enlightening us on the Democrats punish America platform. Its as I suspected. They have no plan other then to CELEBRATE high gas prices because everyone knows the welfare moms and dads dont own a car and so neither should the rest of us.

Barak Obama should rename his campaign........"PUNISH AMERICA."

But wait. Gosh and golly I just looked at McCains energy plan at his website. Its clear full of alternative energy proposals. Gosh he even wants to return the USA to Pre Kyoto emmision levels.

Oh Sorry Runasim. Once again your spinning the truth to make McCain look bad and then shout your outrage when the same is done of Obama.
  • runasim
"McCain is not a proponent of never[-]ending war"

He is a proponent of VICTORY, which is never defined and exists only as "i'll let you know when I'm ready.'"

What the American public wants and what the Iraqi (sovereign) government wants don't matter if McCain doesn't get to declare his personal victory.

He is a proponent of a not stopping until he gets his way war, and the consequences for everything else be hanged.
If only his intellect matched his ego, then he might be albe to propose something worth considering. As it is...
