‘Ignorant’ Romney Policies Will Result in ‘Direct Confrontation’ (China Daily, People’s Republic of China)

Aug 30, 2012 by

Beijing either doesn’t know that expressing criticism of a U.S. presidential nominee is likely to help him win – or it knows and is intentionally doing so. This editorial from China’s state-controlled China Daily asserts that Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is out of his depth when it comes to foreign policy – and that if Romney’s China plans were implemented, they would result in mutually-destructive ‘confrontations’ between the United States and the People’s Republic of China.

The China Daily editorial says in part:

Of course, politicians tend to go back on their word after being elected, and playing the China card has become commonplace for U.S. politicians during election years. But Romney’s China stance is still worrying, as it could poison the friendly development of Sino-U.S. relations.

Setting aside his remedies for U.S. problems domestically and whether or not they would be effective, if his China policy were implemented, it would cause a retrogression in relations and turn the region into a venue for open China-U.S. confrontation.

Romney’s recommendations are EVEN more pugnacious that Obama’s “strategic pivot.” He insists that the U.S. and its allies “must maintain appropriate military capabilities to discourage any aggressive or coercive behavior by China against its neighbors.”

The Republican should be reminded that his own country has been backing some of China’s neighbors, both covertly or overtly, in an attempt to add fuel to the fire over disputes in the South China Sea. But any U.S. attempt to more deeply involve itself in these disputes will result in a head-on confrontation between the two countries. This would be in neither party’s interest.

Romney doesnt have a foreign policy, neither does Ryan for that matter. I guess they think attaching themselves to one of the biggest policy disasters in our current history, with Rice, is their foreign policy.
In general, Republicans are pretending that there is no world outside of America…which make sense, because that is the only way you can talk about American excellence.

because you know we are the best at math, science, physics, ect…

Cheering “we’re number 1″ is great for the NFL.. not so much when deciding if we are going to bomb Iran.

Americans (republicans in particular) are xenophobic and paranoid enough to interpret any outside criticism of a candidate as proof that candidate is the right one for the job. As for a Romney administration’s foreign policy, look no further than the last GOP outing for a preview. Of course a fair size chunk of the electorate learned absolutely nothing from that tragedy and so will be happy to repeat it.
