Joe Walsh’s Truly Disgusting Remarks
Though he never served a day in the military himself, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) disparaged his Democratic opponent’s military service at a town hall on Sunday, saying that she’s not a “true hero.”
His opponent happens to be Tammy Duckworth, a double amputee who lost both her legs in Iraq when insurgents hit her helicopter with an RPG in 2004.
Tammy Duckworth “chose to become a helicopter pilot because few other combat roles are open to women. She has served for more than 20 years, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and receiving multiple military awards, including a Purple Heart, an Air Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal.”
If anyone is a true hero, Tammy Duckworth is.
But this loud-mouth, disgusting man who a couple of months ago, speaking at a town hall meeting, suggested that President Obama was only elected president because he’s an African-American, now has the audacity to say, “Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about.”
In March 2012, Walsh criticized Tammy Duckworth’s military service in an interview with Politico. “What else has she done?” he asked rhetorically. “Female, wounded veteran … ehhh.”
‘Nough said.

Disgusting indeed.
What else do you expect from a guy who won’t take care of his own children? Responsibility? Not likely.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t this the same woman who a few election cycles ago was referred to by her GOP opponent as a “Cut and run democrat”? The name Tammy Duckworth sounds familiar and the lady I’m thinking of also lost her legs.
Maybe you are referring to this, Slamfu. It happened about six years ago
“Last week, in one of the lowest moments of his miserable presidency, George W. Bush accused the Democratic Party of becoming ‘the party of cut and run.’ Tammy Duckworth, the Democrat running for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Illinois) who lost both her legs in when her helicopter took fire in Iraq, has an answer for the president:
“Well, I didn’t cut and run, Mr. President. Like so many others, I proudly fought and sacrificed, Duckworth said. “My helicopter was shot down long after you proclaimed ‘mission accomplished.”

Actually it was her opponent Peter Roskam. Roskam didn’t actually call her a cut and run democrat, he just mentioned “cut and run” democrats while in a debate with her. Which, while in pretty poor taste is nowhere near as crappy as using that phrase to directly refer to her. Still, pretty poor taste when your debating a war vet who lost her legs.
Thanks for clarifying, Slamfu. I picked my version up at the web and did not check it further.
I think Dorian and Slam, both may be true. Suggest nyt or lat or chi trib, esp, to see.
Yet another shameless republican disrespecting yet another veteran who has made sacrifices for his or her country. What the hell is wrong with these people?? Disgusting is right.
If you wish to give this deadbeat man a piece of your mind, here’s a place to do it, his official facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=379114332154031&set=a.132059926859474.27242.126241104108023&type=1&theatereaedbeat
A Washington Post article concludes its coverage of Walsh’s idiocy with
“But what is unsettling is that voters in his district could send him back to Washington to further humiliate them and debase our national debate. We all deserve better.”
Amen!
But, if you watch the video of Walsh’s remarks, what is also unsettling is the fact that you can hear a few in his audience actually chuckle approvingly at his attack on Duckworth…
