Pure Politics

Jun 20, 2012 by

I’m no big fan of Eric Holder – I think a Wall Street lawyer after the economic collapse was a really bad choice for AG.  No banksters have been held accountable.   That said Representative Darell Issa is a witch hunter - a really vile political hack.  A modern day Joseph McCarthy more interested in media face time than truth or justice.  Yes. Fast and Furious was  a case study of  incompetent. And yes, a border gaurd was killed with a “walked weapon”.  But Issa doesn’t care about that – he is only concerned with Issa face time and politics.

Great that you can read Issa’s mind and know everything about what he thinks. Even if you are right, so what? Holder screwed up big time and contradicted himself multipul times and refuses to allow the committe to know what really happened and who knew what. The only reason Issa could use his power in this way is because Holder has held out on them.

Mr. Issa’s background, all of it, is against him, but as chairman of this committee he has a duty to investigate any incompetence in government actions.

Executive priviledge is a last resort to keep White House confidentiality free from Congressional oversight. I personally think Mr. Obama was correct that it should be only invoked about White House communications. Whether this internal conflict reached that high is yet unknown.

The whole thing seems to me to be a conflict between a pro gun control administration and a powerful NRA that is playing itself out in this story of an ill-conceived operation that was incompetently executed. That the bullet could not be definitively connected to the two assault weapons abandoned by the agent’s body will not mute any outraged connection portrayed by congressional members. Was the bullet from f&f weapons? Probably, but we’ll never know.

We only know certain things which were ennumerated in the fist link in a previous thread. True, that link was by a strong NRA advocate, but seem to match the inspecter general’s report that Holder requested and which was completed one month prior to Agent Terry’s death.

Bingo. Just look at the man’s bio and discover his true character. This is politics (power) pure and simple – which seems to be all modern day conservatives care about. They certainly don’t care about the country as a whole, this much is obvious.

Watergate brought down a President and ended in his impeachment. That was a case of burglary. (Breaking and Entering) Nothing of monitary value taken or lives lost.

Fast and Furious was a case where the government provided guns to individuals doing illegal things. Border Guard killed with an illegal weapon.

Doesn’t matter if the Killer would have had it regardless of Fast and Furious. If you or I supplied a weapon and someone was killed, you or I would be on trial for being an accessory to murder.

Which case is more damaging. Watergate which was a burglary that carries one sentence if convicted or being an accessory to murder that carries a longer sentence if convicted?

RP- This may be nitpicking but what happened to “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”?
Also doesn’t that make Reagan a murderer since he supplied arms to the terrorist regime of Iran?

Just one tiny little difference between Watergate and Fast and Furious, RP.

In Watergate, the House of Representatives approved articles of impeachment against Nixon for, among other, obstruction of justice and abuse of power.

Facing near-certain impeachment and a strong possibility of a conviction in the Senate, Nixon resigned the presidency.
Watergate also resulted in the indictment, trial, conviction and incarceration of 43 people, including dozens of top Nixon administration officials.

    Fast and Furious?

So far just a political fishing expedition an investigation by Mr. Issa.

Before this thread goes off into too many tangents, I agree with RB, that Issa is a Republican version of Chuck, who can’t duck a camera, Schumer. It is highly political, and does NOT compare to Watergate, by a mile.

Dorian..Remember how Watergate started. Two green reporters on a story that seasoned reporters did not pay attention to.

Issa may be fishing and he may come up with a line with nothing but bait. Or he might come up with a trophy fish that will show where there’s smoke there is fire.

But we all have to realize that politicians do not operate under the same laws that common folk have to adhere to.

Ever hear of dynamite fishing? Issa, is sort of the type who uses it.
