I’ve noticed that artists, particularly musicians, seem to live long lives. Note – Harry Morgan, M*A*S*H’s Colonel Potter just died at 96.
Maybe it’s only the successful ones that we hear about – after all they can afford the best of life and of health care – but I suspect there’s something to the idea that being satisfied with one’s lot in life is an important contributing factor.
I was very happy with my job (before I became sick, thus 100% disabled). I was an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. I would go to work, play with mud pies (okay, really it would be pills, creams, pastes and such), make magic potions and play with my toys. It was one of the best jobs in the whole world!
