Voter Suppression in Wisconsin

The sound you hear may be of a)independents distancing themselves from the GOP due to the debt ceiling crisis at the same time that you see b)a mobilization of the Democratic party base even though they are not happy with President Barack Obama. On (b) here’s an example of something that will mobilize Democrats in 2012: in Wisconsin there was controversy over a voter ID law that many felt was aimed at keeping some Democrats from the polls. And now?

It turns out Governor Scott Walker is closing 10 DMV offices in….you guessed it… Democratic areas. And, yes, there is always a reason that provides “plausible deniability.” And I’m sure Rush, Sean et all will claim it is all coincidence. (And if you believe that, let me tell you about the Easter Bunny who will hide candy in your house.)

  1. I like how no one is making any effort to examine the fiscal aspect to see if closing those office really does make sense or not. Which leaves me believing they don’t care why they closed just that they have an issue they can use. If it was shown to be true then it should bring down whoever helped implement the change. Shocking really that I haven’t seen anyone who cares about facts more than rhetoric.

  2. If you pass a law forcing people to have IDs that they can only get from a DMV in order to vote then shutting them down in particular areas is unacceptable whatever the fiscal considerations.

IF that is actually what happened and it can be proven in court that is what happened, then a court will probably overturn the closures or overturn the voter ID law.

But it will require proof, not just assertions.

  4. Good grief!

These people are enemies of the state!

Vote subversion has got to be treason!

And these courts? Are they free of influence from Walker? You are always so quick to think in worst-case scenarios when hated leftists do anything but when it comes to plausible voter suppression that has to be rebuked by a court system ALSO open to flagrant corruption you turn into a wet-eyed naif. Strange that.

  6. It is unfair to the republicans being recalled that Scott Walker has not apologized.

Are you kidding me? Look if someone can put together a even half decent case, and I don’t just mean in court, then political pressure would get the office reopened the next day. But if it were a reasonable shutdown based on cost, usage, other locations, etc, then the accusation is libelous. My issue is that while reporters are jumping on the accusation why the heck are they not doing what they are supposed to do? Investigate and see if there is any truth to the stories? Instead of doing their jobs they just report gossip and seem to have stopped finding out truth.

You have zero proof to back this up. Walker has shown himself happy to ignore cries of unfairness and ignore PR hits so far. It would be out of character for him to do what you are saying and it would take time to wind its way through the court when the election is getting very near. More likely and in keeping with how Walker has run WI is that he would wait until after the election and then re-open them to show how he cared about the optics…once he used it as he desired that is.
