Defying Stereotypes : America’s Got Talent

The tweet read “Susan Boyle moment.” I trusted the sender, so I clicked … and was treated to the spectacle of American talent judges being as dismissive (nonverbally) as those British ones had been. This singer, however, is male, black and from America’s backwater to top all backwaters: West (by-god) Virginia. And for 10 years, the 36-year-old has made his living washing cars. Give him a listen (even if you aren’t a Sinatra fan):

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr wowed the audience and the judges on America’s Got Talent with “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” He was voted “forward” to the next round in Las Vegas. When the clip was released last week, it was eclipsed by the Southwest Airline pilot’s “private cockpit conversation” that wasn’t. Murphy deserves more than his current 259,000 views … and I hope that NBC doesn’t force him into a polished persona.

That was fun, especially to us with no tv… Thanks Kathy

I watched Paul Potts and Susan Boyle take their shot at fame and fortune using their G-d given talent. I’m sure the same thing will happen with Landau Murphy. However, the bright spotlight of fame can quickly burn a person who is unable to handle it well. It’s really unfortunate but given Landau’s emotional reaction to his audition, it looks like he will join the aforementioned club.

This young man has a voice I can listen to all day. He is even better than Frank Sinatra and God Bless him I wish him all the best and hope he will keep both feet on the ground.

    jdledell:

Are you saying that because Landau showed emotion that he would not be able to handle sucess?
