First off, it’s a pretty thumping win for Mitt. If you look at the CNN results map it shows Romney winning every single county from the conservative panhandle all the way down the keys.
But the exit polling does show a mild split between various groups.
Men and women both voted for Mitt, but women favored him by a 22 point margin (51-29) while men did so by just a 6 point spread (41-36). Latinos were much stronger for Romney (53-30) than whites (44-33).
When divided by age the spread is actually fairly even, ranging from 12 points among 45-64 year olds to 17 points with those over the age of 65. Income does show a split with a 10 point spread for those earning under 50k a year versus a 22 point margin for those earning over 100k.
But by far the biggest split was ideology based. Very conservative voters supported Newt by 14 points while moderate voters backed Mitt by a 39 point margin or a swing of 53 points. Those who strongly support the Tea Party backed Gingrich by a margin of 13 points while those who somewhat oppose the group supported Romney by 49 points or a swing of 62 points.
In short if you think Ronald Reagan was a leftie than you are wearing a Newt suit while if you liked President Ford or Bush 41 then you are likely a passenger on the Romney Omni.
