If you boil it down, that’s the Bush/DeLay message of the week — a message polls show was repudiated by the bulk of Americans, cutting across religious and political lines…but perhaps that is what some perceive as leadership: doing what you want, despite what the vast majority of citizens desire. Traditional checks and balances? Pahh! States rights? States rights schmates rights! Is the problem “activist” judges who don’t respect the constitution or over-activist politicos who ignore our political traditions and constitution? Polls showed most Americans have a view on that one…
