FOOTNOTE: Yes, I do know about the ventriloquists convention, although I can’t make it this year. The reason: The Moderate Voice in his other incarnation will be performing July 15 and July 16 at the Jefferson County Fair in Fairbury, Nebraska (and blogging from there).
However, TMV has indeed attended some conventions. Several years ago he was on the staff of the convention and did a special seminar on Vent Ethics — a fancy name for joke stealing. In our show as on this blog, we feel that if we do something that’s a piece of garbage at least it’ll be our ORIGINAL garbage.
FOONOTE II: Many non “vents” do go to the convention. With the deaths over the past decade of Senor Wences, Shari Lewis and Paul Winchell, there is only one truly GREAT ventriloquist left — Jimmy Nelson….who came to fame during the 1950s and 1960s when he did the famous Nestles commercials with his dog Farfel. And Jimmy is at EVERY convention…with his famous dummy Danny O’Day…and the dog.
