Dear Brave Souls:
Here from another soul in New York City this morning, part of an email… just an on the spot report of how it is for some in NYC today, for many who are still standing. The writer is mere walking distance from Ground Zero.
“….The bagpipes are playing right outside my window.
It is the annual ceremony held to honor and remember the many, as well as the three brave court officers who perished 14 years ago today. They literally ran from the courthouse to the Towers to help. And they too, died.
It is the ceremony for the many. The too too many.
I stand here during the ceremony, honoring them, and all who died, in my mind and in my heart.
The annual barrage of film clips was in full force last night on television everywhere.
I tried as best I could to avoid it.
I suppose that many people want to see the reminders. And I know that it’s not going to change for many years still.
But – and I think you understand this better than anyone – I don’t need these reminders. I don’t need the sadness. I don’t need to be told to stay alert, or to yet again see the towers fall.
The bigger picture is yet again that being aware – can be a gift, yes. But it also creates challenges.
Many of them. I pray that you feel strong today. That we all feel strong today.”
