I wake up for a bit and what do I find? An email update from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz tells me that there’s been an explosion at a Cincinnati OH mosque. I live in the City of Cincinnati. I quickly go to the Cincinnati Enquirer and find that, yes, a bomb went off outside the Clifton Mosque late yesterday evening. I drove by this mosque Monday afternoon, it’s in a residential neighborhood just north of the University of Cincinnati. I’m glad to see that nobody was hurt and little damage was done. Keep in mind, though, that Jewish synagogues and African-American churches have frequently experienced such vandalism or threats thereof. It is usually meant to intimidate worshippers and is therefore a hate crime.
UPDATE: I just saw the Cincinnati police chief on TV (WKRC) describe this incident as a pipe bombing and mention TWO explosions.
ANOTHER UPDATE: This article is on the website of WCPO-TV and includes video of this morning’s news conference. Here is coverage by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
