Note To Readers

A few things to pass along to TMV readers:

THE REFORMAT OF TMV is well underway. You will note some changes on this page. You’ll also note that you now can click on CATEGORIES on the lower right side of the site’s margin. This will increasingly let you read stories under specific categories. It is NOT retroactive, though, so this is something that will be starting now.

Also in the works: a list that will allow you to click on authors to view posts by a specific writer — all the more important since each writer on TMV has his or her own perspective.

Other changes are in the works, as well.

Yours truly does not like to “ban” anyone from leaving comments and has takenheat for refusing to do so from co-bloggers, readers and some top bloggers of the right and left. However, some comments so clearly cross the line that there’s no choice. We had to do so once more. No, we don’t have a “comments police” that go around trying to find violations of policy, but much of it is common sense. The comments section should foster vigorous debate and an interplay of ideas. When someone crosses the line, they usually know they crossed it but in a moment of anger don’t care. We warn them but sometimes they don’t get the message. And then the BAN button is hit with enormous sadness, almost grief.

Note To Readers

Now that I have your undivided attention, some answers to some questions that have come up in a lot of emails:

Where is TMV himself? Due to holiday-season travels in my other incarnation, I’m driving very long distances each day and barely have time to contribute to this site. So many thanks to this site’s co-writers, new ones and longtime ones, for helping keep it “alive.”

Is the format going to change because this site’s present set up with all the new writers is driving me crazy? YES. We’re looking at it. It will be revamped to be more “reader friendly.” This includes a page with bios of contributors, possibly an author’s index that’ll take you to each writers’ posts, and better indexing of posts written on a given day.

I sent you a link to my post and you didn’t use it — why? If it’s the one about the farmer and the goat, I’ll pass on it, although I will send them best wishes on their wedding. Otherwise, I have NOT deleted most emailed links and will use them either this weekend as stand alone links or in a long-delayed edition of Around The Sphere.

BE SURE TO SCROLL DOWN: Unlike many blogs, we have traditionally redated our evening posts to republish them the following morning. Now, due to our increased number of cobloggers, it makes a bit more sense to start with the new posts on the new day. Once the revamped format is in place it will be easier to find posts. BUT if you just SCROLL DOWN you may see some that you missed earlier yesterday.

Note To Readers

TMV’s own posts will be quite limited between today and Sunday. The reason: he will be traveling to a variety of cities in what is truly a break-neck schedule. His posts will appear but not as much during the day. And he might not be around to post on breaking news.

However, stay tuned and keep checking back often since our always-independent cobloggers will have some things to say.

Note To Readers

We’re having some severe posting problems right now. We see that our co-bloggers have gotten some posts up and some are in the timer. But TMV himself was unable to write last night due to being unable to connect to the server. These problems should be resolved but please keep checking back. If you see posts its due to in inability to get them on the site right now.

Note To Readers

Due to the extended holiday season, we’ve re-dated and reposted even more posts than usual for the following day’s blog. We do this routinely so posts put on this site at night are on the following day’s site, to get maximum readership (permalinks are not impacted, just the “history” of the post).

Today we’ve reposted our comment on Dick Clark — which was actually done yesterday morning — and put it out of order because TMV himself was touched by it (and consequently some think TMV is touched in the head). Note that newer posts can be found BELOW it so keep scrolling down.

Note To Readers

This has been a chaotic couple of weeks for TMV and some of this site’s co-bloggers. As a result, there are some stories we’ve been a bit behind on…but thanks for your patience!

For instance, yesterday TMV was gone the bulk of the day and evening and totally away from a computer. The SAME situation will happen today…but hopefully our co-bloggers will be offering you some tidbits and their thoughts.

For instance, this site would normally have a post on the vital Iraqi elections. We didn’t due to our schedules and people not being around to post. But even though it’s late at night San Diego time, we’re going to rectify that one right now.

And, a reminder again, TMV’s own posts will be limited today, likely resuming later in the afternnoon.

Note To Readers:

A new complicating factor has been thrown into TMV’s posts beween now and the second week in December. This is written as he gets ready to go to the airport. It turns out that someone has stolen TMV’s laptop.

He’ll still be doing his posts but he will be limited on certain days and for a three day stretch at the end of next week.

This is NOT a good financial time for this to happen at all. So a decision will be made on to whether to request tips or even loans via the tip jar to replace it or just look for other options.

But it WILL impact TMV’s own posts to this site over the next two weeks. (If the computer does not work at his destination later today then he will be unable to post for nearly a week).

More on this later.

Note To Readers

TMV is in and out today so check back. Our co-bloggers may also have some posts on breaking and non-breaking stories as well. (We will be out of pocket for the next two hours..)

Note To Readers

TMV is out of pocket for most of the day. He’ll be doing one more Katrina-related post/roundup this morning. It should be up on this site by around 11 a.m. California time.

He will attempt to post from various cities today but it may not be possible. Check back often though, since our always-independent co-bloggers should have some interesting things to say today.

Due to our time constraints, we’ve gotten some emails we haven’t been able to answer (and even some links we haven’t had time to put on this site). But we will take care of the backlog this weekend.

Check back!

Note To Readers

As described below, we have difficult posting conditions today. We’re now working on our look at the latest on Hurricane Katrina. As with the case yesterday, we’ll post some of it when we’re partly done and keep adding it on this site until it’s completed. So keep checking back.

Note To Readers

We’ve had some problems over the past 24 hours with getting into our comments, trackbacks, etc. — all of which it turned out had to do with a server problem.

We will be posting today but posts will be spread out. And for at least two hours tonight we won’t post while some repairs are being made to fix the problems.

So DO check back. We’ll have posts on the Supreme Court rulings, etc. later on this site today.

We’re going to hold off on some other posts we were going to do, and do mostly posts on breaking news today, since our time will be limited tonight until this is fixed.

Check back. Often.

Note To Readers

Just a note to let you know about a change…because TMV (who is seldom wrong) messed up on something.

If you scroll down you’ll see the welcome return of our Guest Blogger Andrew Quinn, who took a break from blogging.

We didn’t realize until today that he actually moved his site. So all these weeks we’ve been looking at his old inactive site. We’ve updated his links on our blogroll and the link to the above left under CONTACT.

If you CLICK HERE right now you’ll see Andrew’s new site, chock full of new posts.

Andrew and the others who contribute here have now been invited to basically be “co-bloggers” and put up “pointer posts” to posts on their own sites, double post when they want — and when TMV knows he’s going to be stuck in traffic receive our frantic calls for help for some original posts on specific days. But they can do the original posts, too, when they want.

Going from occasional “guest bloggers” to contributors who can post when they want means you’ll get a wider range of opinions on this site — but every person who puts posts on this site is an independent thinker, even though there may be differences in their political leanings. Also: they’re under no obligation to post X number of things, so on some days you may see some of their posts, other days a few, and other days none. It’s up to them but the welcome mat is out…

Note To Readers:

This has been a hellishly hectic 24 hours so we need to fill you in ASAP:

1)I’m Guest Blogging on Dean’s World which is why there were no new posts here yesterday and there won’t be at least until 9 pm tonight. Today included guest blogging, attending and observing a demonstration in San Diego (that post will be on Dean’s World later today)and appearing in the Miss El Cajon Beauty Pagent stage show (which included a cast of celebrity look alikes flown in from all over the country). To see our posts for today, go to the link above which will take you to Dean’s World.

We’re still fine tuning it but due to the inability to download this site due to we’re dropping that and have moved our blogroll to Powerblogs’ new blogroll which is fixed. If you asked to be blogrolled please email and remind me. We will be going through each link in coming weeks and deleting inactive ones.

Note To Readers:

If you’ve read the post below you can see that blogger Dean Esmay’s wife is about to have a baby. Due to this for quite understandable reasons he can’t post over the next day or so. TMV Guest Blogs there on weekends so over the next few days (at least until Friday) you may see some (mercifully) short posts referring you elsewhere (Dean’s World) for a longer post (usualy mine).

We’re still posting here, but trying to divide some stories up. It won’t matter if I put a larger story here because this isn’t a matter of "hits" but helping out someone whose wife is about to have a C-section. (We are about to post link on an unconfirmed nuclear threat to Boston. We would love to have that on this site but we did it first on Dean’s).

Note To Readers:

Our posts will resume Monday morning. We put the one on below by mistake and will leave it there.

Tomorrow is the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a pivotal figure to us and we want to spend a bit of time tonight reflecting — and writing. So there will be a special post on that here tomorrow.

We’ll also be doing an Around The ‘Sphere weblog roundup of interesting posts. And we’ll post here a post we did this weekend on Dean’s World — a post about blogging that has some biographical details (but not about what I did with that sheep).
