In the Republican party, according to the Austrian writer, nobody has the majority appeal and enthusiasm is lacking. Everyone has to distance themselves from Bush, who is competing with Truman for the title of least popular president ever.
The thing that used to make the Republican party appear so mighty was its coherence, its self-belief, and its appetite for victory. How things change – which is just as well, because without the possibility of change, Democracy has no power.
