Enemies of Democracy: Theocrats

In early 2018, Baptist preacher Dan Fisher decided to run as a Republican for the office of Oklahoma’s governor. During Oklahoma’s 2018 GOP primaries, Fisher received 35,765 votes. That was 35,765 votes too many.

Why?

Because, as his campaign brochure indicates, Fisher is an enemy of the U.S. Constitution, an enemy of Democracy and the worst kind of theocrat.

This what he says in his campaign brochure:

My first act as Governor will be to reassert state sovereignty by restoring the God-given, unalienable right to life. To fulfill this sacred duty, I pledge to:

1. Call an emergency special session of the Oklahoma Legislature to criminalize abortion as murder and to remove abortion from the jurisdiction of Oklahoma Courts.

2. Instruct law enforcement officials to immediately close every abortion facility in Oklahoma in accordance with their sworn oaths of office.

3. Ignore all court orders attempting to thwart the will of the people and advise Oklahoma officials to ignore any federal court summons.

4. Call upon President trump to stand with Oklahoma,as we peacefully resolve this matter of jurisdiction.

5. Call for judicial reforms which would remove the power of judicial review from the courts.

6. Call upon Christians in Oklahoma to practice pure and undefiled religion (James 1:27), assisting mothers and fathers who have formerly sought abortion.

The topic of abortion aside, Fisher’s quest is an overt attack on democratic principles.

World history is rife with examples of theocrats destroying human lives both figuratively and literally. Indeed, numerous people have immigrated to the USA in order to get away from theocrats.

In his free online book Blogging Isn’t For Cowards, this author chronicles how theocrats in the Republican Party motivated him to stop being a registered Republican. Theocrat Dan Fisher has confirmed that the author made the correct decision.

Theocrats wouldn’t be a threat to Democracy if they didn’t have supporters. Sadly, theocrats in the USA have supporters in the Republican Party, which like a seller of pork products having Jews as customers. The Republican Party wasn’t started in order to promote a theocracy.

Theocrats are indeed enemies of Democracy. If the GOP doesn’t want to be perceived as also being an enemy of Democracy, then GOP leaders need to denounce the theocrats who are registered Republicans and who run for public office as Republicans.

If one loves Democracy, then one shouldn’t vote for a theocrat even if the theocrat claims to be a Republican or a Conservative or a Christian.
