The AP reports:
City of London financiers have found a perfect way to splurge their annual bonuses — cosmetic surgery to keep them looking youthful in a fiercely competitive job market.
Business is booming in nose jobs, wrinkle fillers, liposuction and botox relaxants to repair the ravages of time.
Operations carried out by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons rose by a third to over 22,000 last year. The number of men having surgery has risen steadily and now account for 11 percent of the total.
I will never understand the ‘war against getting older’. It is one of those grave errors of our ‘modern’ way of thinking: that the signs of getting older must be hid. That they are ugly. They are not ugly at all. They are signs that one lived a long life. That one went through a lot. That one has a lot of experience. That, although – perhaps – life wasn’t easy, one is still here and – again perhaps – even thriving.
Anyway: I am glad for the Brits that they have discovered this obsession and that they now will be dedicated to removing every possible sign of aging.
