Recently I have started dabbling in satire with mixed results.
Fortunately for our readers, although the following may look, feel and sound like satire, it is not.
In a recent Quinnipiac University Poll, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got some very “good” news.
The news was so good that Christie had to brag a little bit when interviewed by Fox News’s Megyn Kelly on Monday.
Christie was answering a question from Kelly on one of the poll questions to which New Jersey voters answered 65 – 29 percent that Gov. Christie would not make a good president but also said, 64 – 33 percent, that Christie should not run for president.
When asked by Kelly what these numbers meant to him, Christie explained that the reason 65 percent of New Jersey voters think he would make a bad president is, obviously, that the people of New Jersey really want him to stay as their governor. Christie: “A lot of those people in that 65 percent want me to stay. And I’ve heard that from lots of people at town hall meetings. ‘Don’t leave to run for president because we want you to stay.'”
When Kelly reiterated that these voters said that the governor would be a bad president, he said, “I think people hear the question they want to hear,” before continuing to convince himself that 65 percent of his constituents thought he was the Jack to their Rose and they never wanted him to let go.
It is a shame that Kelly did not ask the New Jersey governor about some of these other poll results:
• New Jersey voters disapprove 56 – 38 percent of the job Christie is doing as governor, his lowest approval rating ever and the lowest approval rating for any governor this year in the nine states surveyed by Quinnipiac University;
• Only 41 percent say that he is honest and trustworthy;
• Only 41 percent say that he cares about their needs and problems;
• Only 34 percent approve of his handling of the economy and jobs;
• Only 34 percent approve of his handling of education;
• Only 32 percent approve of his handling of the state budget.
It would have been priceless to watch Christie try to make silk purses out of all these sows’ ears.
