BREAKING : 14-year-old Philip Chism, held without bail for the murder of Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer. Philip Chism reportedly beat the teacher to death.
Boston.com: Philip D. Chism was ordered held without bail at his arraignment this afternoon in Salem District Court. Judge Matthew Nestor approved funds for a mental competency evaluation. A probable cause hearing was slated for Nov. 22.
Chism had been reported missing Tuesday after he did not return home from school. Ritzer was reported missing at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when she did not return home and did not answer her cellphone.
Police searched the school and found blood in a second-floor bathroom. Ritzer’s body was found later behind the school, Blodgett said in a news conference this morning at the high school.
Colleen Ritzer is a graduate of Assumption College. She was pursuing a master’s degree in school counseling at Salem State University. Ms. Ritzer worked with special needs students. She lived with her parents and was in her second year of teaching.
It is not clear if Philip Chism was a student at the school. He was arrested after being found walking down a street. This latest murder comes days two days after a 12-year-old student shot teacher Michael Landsberry, wounded two others, before committing suicide at Sparks Middle School in Nevada.
