Rep. Steven King (R-IA) apparently is of the GOP school that believes in never backing down and never refusing to double down on things that most people agree are hurting his party.
Saying that for every valedictorian among young illegal immigrants there are a hundred drug smugglers and then going on national television and yet again saying that comprehensive immigration reform would “ legalize a lot of people that will include the people who are drug smugglers up to the age of 35″ he shows an amazing disregard for any members of the GOP except the most vehemently anti-immigration minority.
Then there’s this little gem where he says to David Gregory, concerning the Hispanic GOP consultant also on the show, Ana Navarro:
KING: Well, I would say this. First of all, I spoke only of drug smugglers. If Ana understands the language, she should know that. I didn’t insult her or other Republicans and I didn’t –
Am I imaging it or is he actually making a not-so-veiled insult concerning her ability to understand English because of her Hispanic ancestry? Did he really go there or was it just a problem with his own limitations on how to properly phrase things in English?
