Dozens of armed men invaded the US consulate in Benghazi last month setting it on fire and hunting down staff, US officials said in a dramatic, detailed account of the deadly assault in Libya. There had been no intelligence to warn that an attack was in the works and in the hours before the streets…

Terribly tragic – a tragedy compounded by the desire of republicans to make political hay from it. This report will probably ruin their day.

    CSPA today: http://www.c-span.org/Live-Video/C-SPAN/

Maureen Dowd’s column is informative: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/03/opinion/dowd-complicity-in-duplicity.html “The administration had benefited from the impression that it had diminished Al Qaeda, even though the public no doubt appreciates that it was never going to be so simple.”

The NYT editorial on Oct. 8th, 2012 said:
“The administration initially characterized last month’s attack as a spontaneous demonstration gone awry, but, within two days, described it as an organized terrorist act by extremists with possible links to Al Qaeda”
Who said that on Sept. 13th? The NYT didn’t quote it did they, and their story on the CNN story didn’t appear until AFTER Rice’s assertion that it was the film, and then only in the Business Section. Shame on you NYT and kudos to MD of that same paper, OF RECORD.

House Republicans Go After the Obama Administration over Benghazi Attack

“This should not be about the business of drawing conclusions and then looking for the facts,” Rep. Elijah Cummings, the panel’s top Democrat, said in his opening statement, before noting the hearing was taking place 27 days before a presidential election.

    [...]

“My goal is to put this partisanship behind us and focus on the security of our personnel,” Cummings said. “If that is our goal we have to examine the funding. The fact is since 2011 the House has cut diplomatic security by hundreds of millions of dollars. The House has done that. The Senate has restored some of it. But the House has done that.” In 2009, House Republicans voted to slash $1.2 billion from State Department operations. In 2011 they cut the Administration’s request for embassy security by $331 million and in 2012 by another $331 million, though Senate Democrats restore $88 million of that. In 2013,they are seeking to cut another $172 million, a move that Hillary Clinton on Tuesday told House Speaker John Boehner “deeply” concerned her. But no one wants to admit any complicity, especially in the thick of an election season.

But, but, but… It’s all President Obama’s fault!

Take out all the obscene, immoral, and absolutely disgusting Republican spin and it appears that this tragedy occurred BECAUSE of the Republicans.

Their efforts to reduce the deficit by reducing government to the point of cutting embassy security and then trying to blame it on President Obama.

Well, well, Bush is probably doing his famous cackle as Obama is getting the same sort of treatment he got. Not that the extent of it is Justified and is overdone.

Cummings: “This should not be about the business of drawing conclusions and then looking for the facts,” That’s what “they”, we don’t know who yet, should have said and done instead of using the video (poor Rice).

I watched the hearing and without the Dems (only Cummings) there for balance, it was not nice, with scolding from many and only a few asking probing civil questions.

Hillary is looking bad on this because she initially went along with the video story, but in the end split with the WH.

What I want to see is Rice explain who sent her out and why.

As was testified to by Ms. Lamb (paraphrased, I’m sorry) they could always manage to get security if they needed it to a post, budget or not. She seems sincere and made a bad decision.

As MD said Complicity in Duplicity, and she ain’t no cretin Rep.

And, my paper the NYT ****** up, and is part of the complicity.
