Atlantic.com has an interesting article about Newt Gingrich.
According to Molly Ball, Newt Gingrich is a “man reduced.”
He attracts more attention for having been bitten by a zoo penguin than for policy proposals.
He barely rates mention at political functions and has not been taken seriously by the political world for some weeks now.
Much of his empire of think tanks, book publishing, speaking engagements and television appearances is “in shambles.”
The policy and consulting enterprise he helmed is “on the rocks.”
His American Solutions for Winning the Future and the Gingrich Group “are defunct.”
His campaign, nearly $4.5 million in debt, “has stooped to renting out its donor and email list for money.”
Perhaps most devastatingly, “[t]he couple’s credit line at Tiffany — up to $1 million at one point — is gone.”
I personally feel so sorry for him that — to help him out a little bit — I hope that during Obama’s second term Gingrich’s magical $2.50-a-gallon of gasoline pipe dream becomes reality through concrete and realistic energy policies.
There is one aspect where Gingrich is not a “reduced man,” one sense in which Gingrich “has not been diminished by his ongoing quest for the presidency.”

Newt Gingrich has gotten noticeably fatter over the course of his campaign. His belly bulged onto his lap as he sat on a yellow couch in the basement of a Lancaster, Penn., Marriott one recent night; he had fastened only one of the two buttons on his black suit jacket, and even it appeared to be straining…
Some would add a couple more things that have not seen a reduction in this man: His ego and his ambition.
