Is it the United States – and not Iran or Venezuela – that the world’s people need to worry about? According to this news account by María Lilibeth Da Corte of Venezuela’s El Universal, the arrival of Iran President Ahmadinejad in Latin America has begun with a Venezuelan ‘love fest’ of sorts, with lots of spicy language about the United States.

“Spokesmen for North American imperialism say Ahmadinejad is in Venezuela so that, at this very moment, 2:30pm, we, Ahmadinejad and I, from the basement of the Miraflores, plan to take careful aim at Washington. Because they [the Iranians] have missiles, and since some missiles will be fired, they say we are going to attack Washington. That is almost the claim they [the U.S.] are making. It makes us laugh, but it also reminds us to remain alert,” joked Venezuela’s chief of state. He was standing outside the front door of the Miraflores Palace, after saluting Ahmadinejad, and after Chávez warmly embraced him as he arrived, calling him a “true brother.”
After offering assurances that both countries are peaceful, Chávez said that it is for Venezuela and Iran to “stop the imperialist madness.”
“That is one of our tasks. We wish it wasn’t, but it is: we have to stop, halt, brake the imperialist madness that has now been unleashed like it hasn’t in many, many years,” Chavez said.
For his part, the Iranian president warned that despite the, “Arrogance that doesn’t want us to be together,” he said he would be “forever” at the side of Chávez.
“Our weapon is logic, culture and human values. And our weapon is love … We love all people, even the American people, who now suffer under the yoke of the Arrogance,” condemned the Iranian president, according to his translator.
