Underneath all the Ballot Measures and congressional measures to PRE-oppress the LGBT Community, after all the millions, and the phony “therapies” and the rest of it, the world moved on, paying no attention to their squalls. In the House, they turn tail and hoof it off to more fertile pastures, like conflating racism with Latinos with “illegal immigrants.”
House Republicans Cave On Marriage Fight
Chris Geidner / BuzzFeed“[T]he House now seeks leave to withdraw as a party defendant.” House Republicans stop defending statutes similar to the Defense of Marriage Act that ban recognition of same-sex couples’ marriages.
WASHINGTON — House Republican leaders announced in a court filing Thursday that they will not defend remaining statutes similar to the Defense of Marriage Act that ban recognition of same-sex couples’ marriages.
The move comes three weeks and one day after the Supreme Court ruled in Edith Windsor’s case that the federal definition of marriage in DOMA was unconstitutional because it banned the federal government from recognizing same-sex couples’ marriages….
Because the world has changed. Thirty years ago, a hundred years ago, this would be UNIMAGINABLE to most occupants of those time slots.
This belies the fundamental problem of conservatism (and of, alas, conservationism): the world changes.
It changes all the time. It has changed so much in the last 237 years that we would barely understand the venerable Founding Families — their slang, their language, their assumptions about the world, their possibilities — that we are, right now, struggling to understand the Civil War generation, or the now forgotten World War I.
It has changed in almost unimaginably in the past thirty years.

In Laramie, Wyoming, where I was a kid, Matthew Shepherd was tortured to death in 1998. He would be 37 years old today.
In San Diego last weekend, my grandson marched in the Pride Parade.
And two days ago — coincidentally, also in San Diego — my friend from AirAmerica days, now KVOT-Taos’ Nancy Stapp wed her partner, Heather Pipkin.

The world changes.
Ofttimes for the better.
Courage.
