Earlier today, TMV’s Doug Bursch posted the video, just released by Wikileaks, of the July, 2007, slaughter of about a dozen Iraqi civilians — including two children and two Reuters photographers — by U.S. forces shooting from a helicopter.
For those supporters of our global military engagements who are not inclined to question their own belief in the American Way of War, to acknowledge what this video clearly shows — the cold-blooded murder of unarmed civilians — would be to open the door to questioning a lot of other very basic assumptions. So that probably explains the willful blindness (or denial, if you want to be generous) of every single conservative commentator I’ve read on this so far.
I say that because, reading some of the interpretations of what the video shows, and/or justifications of the actions taken by those U.S. military pilots, has me wondering if they watched the same video I did.
