Can Democrats explain why Vice-President Joe Biden shouldn’t be the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nominee? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sure, Vice-President Biden is a gaffe machine. He has put his foot in his mouth so often that he has athlete’s tongue. Still, if anyone has the job experience necessary to be POTUS, then it is him.
Perhaps it isn’t too late for him to enter the current presidential race. CNN quotes South Carolina state legislator James Smith as saying, “As time goes on there appears to be a bigger and bigger space in the Democratic primary for him to step into.”
It isn’t as if anyone hasn’t already been planning for a run by Mr. Biden. Citing an anonymous Democratic operative and close source to Mr. Biden, NBC News states, “According to the Democratic operative, the campaign is likely alive and well and well planned in the minds of some of his closest supporters. There are a lot of people who have been thinking about what a campaign should look like.”
Regarding a potential presidential run by Mr. Biden, CBS News states, “In the past, confidants have said that he’d be able to quickly mobilize a donor network should he get into the race.”
A 08/01/15 CNN story states the following:
Jon Cooper, a former Obama fundraiser who serves as Draft Biden’s National Finance Chair, said his conversations with Democratic donors has left him convinced the vice president could raise the cash needed to compete against Clinton. The bond between Biden and Obama has grown closer in the second term and Biden is seen again and again at the president’s side.
“Partly because of the very deep reservoir of support we’ll find among Obama supporters, bundlers and donors, I think the Biden campaign will be able to tap into that overnight,” he said. “He will be able literally within 24 hours put a strong fundraising structure in place.”
Should he choose to run, Mr. Biden would be doing so just when Hillary Clinton’s popularity is waning. Regarding Secretary Clinton, ABC News states, “A poll this week in New Hampshire had her trailing Bernie Sanders, the first time a major poll this election cycle has shown anyone other than Hillary Clinton to be leading the field.”
