UPDATE: According to Senator Hatch (R-UT) Kennedy has been taken to the hospital but he was awake and gave him ‘that old Irish grin’ when he entered the ambulance.  This could be a good sign

Breaking news that Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) has collapsed at the luncheon for President Obama. Paramedics have responded, but no word yet on his condition. Early indications are that he may have had a seizure and it does not seem yet that he has been taken to a hospital.

Given his health and the stress of the day, a seizure would not be unusual. We can only hope that his recovery will be quick, but we are hearing both good and bad reports.

It was also rumored, at first, that Senator Byrd (D-WV) had collapsed, but Capitol Police now state that Byrd is fine.
