If you’re a Republican member of the California Legislature you might as well just stay home and read.
Preliminary election results show that Democrats will gain 2/3rds control of both house of the state legislature.
Republican influence in the legislature has been somewhat iffy for decades. Democrats rarely if ever entertain legislation proposed by Republicans, more often rejected the GOP bill only to re-introduce it under Democratic sponsorship. The only trump cards Republicans had were 1) if a Republican was governor he could give them some power or 2) when it came to passing taxes and budgets the law requires a 2/3rds majority so Democrats had to at least consult the GOP.
Now with 2/3rd control my guess is that the Democrats under the dome won’t give their GOP colleagues the time of day.
It’s a sad development in what used to be a bipartisan state
