National polls are showing a narrowing of the gap between Romney and Obama, with more than one poll showing Romney slightly ahead and others showing him slightly behind.
National polls, however, do not matter very much. What matters most is the state-by-state polls, and in that regard, the picture is hazy at the moment. Writing for the Washington Post, Chris Cillizza argues that things look very bright for Obama indeed, as Obama starts with more electoral votes leaning his way and doesn’t even have to carry every state he did in 2008 to win. But, also writing for the Post, Jennifer Rubin says things look great for Romney, suggesting that Romney only has to do a little better than McCain, and can do significantly worse than Bush did in 2004, and still win.
It is all early yet, but it is looking like we may have a very tight race indeed this November.
