Since Rep. Peter King (R-NY) has made it clear he believes that Muslims in the United States have not “cooperated” with counterterrorism efforts, perhaps that will be the test he and his committee members use in the upcoming hearings before the Homeland Security Committee. Those who do not “cooperate” with the investigation will be suspected of radical Islamic sympathies — just as the Hollywood Ten, and others brought before the House Un-American Activities Committee, became even more likely, in the minds of McCarthy and his minions, of being Communist operatives because they invoked the protection of the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer questions that Congress did not have any right to ask them.
Politico reports that Muslim-Americans are afraid, and that their fears are getting stronger, and that in itself is a sign of guilt, isn’t it?
