A while back I wrote a post in which I discussed the fact that Democrats seem to be unable to keep their financial affairs in order while Republicans seem to be unable to keep it in their pants.
Just a few days ago we had Nevada Senator John Ensign admit to an affair, now we have South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford admitting to an affair. It seems his venture to Argentina was part of that mess.
He will resign as chair of the GOP Governors Association but I wouldn’t be shocked if, in time, he ends up resigning as Governor. Indeed there are some whispers about possible impeachment, though I am not sure it would go that far. In either case his 2012 Presidential effort seems DOA.
This has not been a good week for the GOP and, while I am sure we’ll get some trolls out of the woodwork who will use this for nasty attacks, I can only express sadness that we seem to have less and less of an opposition party.
