This summer, a federal jury in Miami found Mark Grenon, 66, and his sons Jonathan Grenon, 37; Joseph Grenon, 36; and Jordan Grenon, 29, of conspiring to defraud the U.S. by “distributing an unapproved and misbranded drug.”
A federal judge sentenced Mark and Joseph to 60 months in prison on Friday. He sentenced Jonathan and Jordan to 151 months in prison because of an additional count of contempt of court.
The men made more than $1,000,000 selling a “chemical solution containing sodium chlorite and water which, when ingested orally, became chlorine dioxide, a powerful bleach typically used for industrial water treatment or bleaching textiles, pulp, and paper.”
Their company: Genesis II Church of Health and Healing (“Genesis”). Mark Grenon said he founded the church to “legalize the use” of the poisonous treatment.
Before Covid, they had pitched the Genesis miracle cure for “cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and leukemia.”
Where was the criminal prosecution before Covid? Absent.
On April 8, 2020 the FTC directed Genesis to stop selling its ”unapproved” drug.
In June 2020, federal prosecutors filed charges against the family. Mark and Joseph fled to Colombia and were extradited.
The four represented themselves in court this summer.
