The messenger is sometimes a little too over the top for me, but the message here is intriguing:
Was Carol Lam, one of the eight sacked U.S. attorneys, going after Vice President Cheney when the Justice Department pulled the plug on her?
Senator Arlen Specter kind of sort of intimated as much when he asked recently whether Lam was let go because she was “about to investigate other people who were politically powerful.”
Will the now-completed 3,000-page Justice Department document dump shed any light on what is on its face a circumstantial connection between defense contractor-briber Mitch Wade, bribe recipient Rep. Duke Cunningham and the veep?
Meanwhile, the WaPo reports that Patrick Fitzgerald was ranked below prosecutors who “exhibited loyalty” to the Bush administration on a DoJ chart sent to the White House in March 2005 when he was leading the CIA leak investigation that resulted in the perjury conviction of Scooter Libby.
The White House’s damage control efforts on this scandal have been beyond inept. Methinks that there is more rot is to be revealed, as well as it being only a matter of time before AG Alberto Gonzales, who has been revealed to be bad at everything he did, most notably in his ability to tell lies that can’t be challenged, decides to spend more time with his family.
By the way, if you’re having a slow day and want to peruse some of the DoJ documents, head over to the House Judiciary committee’s slick home page.
