When Will They Ever Learn – Another Republican Opens His Yap On Rape And Abortion

There isn’t really much editorializing needed, other than maybe the title of the piece. Here is the quote.

“Incest is so rare, I mean it’s so rare. But the rape thing, you know, I know a woman who was raped and kept the child, gave it up for adoption and doesn’t regret it. In fact, she’s a big pro-life proponent. But, on the rape thing it’s like, how does putting more violence onto a woman’s body and taking the life of an innocent child that’s a consequence of this crime, how does that make it better?”

    — Washington congressional candidate John Koster (R), quoted by the Seattle Times.

Great Photo!! He is a Washington candidate?? Guess he missed all the scuttlebutt on the hill about stupid Republicans and their comments on rape?

“A letter from a rape victim that was posted in The Washington Monthly…

” I don’t have any interest in hearing the opinion of a man who has never been the victim of sexual assault. And I don’t have any interest in hearing what he thinks about my choices. None. I don’t even know why these anti-choice Republicans think they are entitled to speak about the topic. This is about the power of women as independent actors to make choices about their own bodies. A rape survivor has already lost power and control over her bodily autonomy and now Republican men want to let us know what they think we should be allowed to do after the rape?”

The persistence of stupid in the GOP on this subject is just staggering.

So so much wrong with this statement. Of course the reason they don’t shut up is that they have yet to internalize and accept the idea that they really really don’t get an opinion on this. It’s seen so often as an oops-slip-of-the-tongue that drives voters away. But no, if they realized they don’t know what they’re talking about and they don’t get an opinion, they wouldn’t “slip up” by accidentally saying what do in fact believe to be true.

    Rape thing….

Who thought the word rape could be so devalued?

  • ordinarysparrow

I am feeling the need to go back and read some of the feminist writers…

” No one is more arrogant toward women, more aggressive or scornful, than the man who is anxious about his virility.” Simone de Beauvoir

If i were one of these males i would be so fearful of the blow back after making such comments…

The good news for those of us who expect President Obama to be re-elected is that thoughtful people (both men and women) are listening.

    And guess what…

… It’s showing up in the closing weeks polls.

Off Topic: Is the update to TMV’s home page… namely NEWSMAX HEADLINES an indication that the definition of “Moderate” might change after the election? 🙂

Don’t be so hard on the man, this could have been a “legitimate rape.”

“…how does putting more violence onto a woman’s body and taking the life of an innocent child that’s a consequence of this crime, how does that make it better?”

I guess I’d point out that the “violence on a woman’s body” is not actually violence, but a perfectly legal medical procedure, and it is also not “put onto” the woman, since it is voluntary.

Furthermore, forcing a woman to bear the consequence of a crime, when a perfectly legal and voluntary medical procedure is available that can remove that consequence, amounts to another crime.

Everyone seems to think that whatever happens to someone is God’s will… good AND bad things. That God has a plan.

Yet the Christians have their devil which they have (in the past) blamed evil things on. And we do have evil people perpetrating evil acts upon others (and to be sure we have good people who may be misguided perpetrating evil acts upon others).

So what exactly DOES evil do these days if everything that happens, good and bad… is God’s will?

Or could we have evil perpetrating acts that are against God’s will but no one wants to acknowledge it because it’s just easier to say, “It’s God’s will”? With such a flip response as, “It’s God’s will” there is no reason to have deeper theological, moral or ethical reflections, discussions or true reasoning.

SteveK, The only pollster that gives Romney a chance is Ras…and they were so terrible last election that their number should just be tossed out. I believe they were 3-4 point to the right on a number of elections.

Ya know, this rape thing is just soooo yesterday. If ya ladies would just know how to conduct yourselves, it wouldn’t happen. And don’t even get me started on this whole incest thing. It is just soooo rare it’s not even worth talking about. Now, can we just get back to talking about the muslum, kenyan, terrorist sympathising, anti-christ, socialist, commie in the white house?
