Well – we’ve done it again. We’ve angered the Beijing leadership.

According to this news account from China’s Xinhua news service, the Chinese government is ‘urging’ the U.S. to curb the ‘odious conduct’ of a ‘small number’ of ‘anti-China lawmakers’ after the House passed Resolution 1370 [it passed 419-1], which criticizes China’s human rights record. Furthermore – the Chinese government takes umbrage with President Bush, for meeting pro-democracy activists in Washington, since it ‘sends the wrong message’ to ‘anti-China forces.

Ahh – let the Games [and the arrests] begin!

BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said here on Thursday that the U.S. side should curb the “odious conduct” of a handful of anti-China lawmakers. He also said that President Bush’s meeting with a number of activists sends a “seriously wrong” message to anti-China forces.

Liu made the remarks when asked by a journalist to respond to a report that Bush met on Tuesday with Rebiya Kadeer [A Uygher businesswoman who was jailed for sending Chinese newspaper clipping abroad ], Wei Jingsheng [former Red Guard who became a pro-democracy activist ] and other anti-China persons.

“These people have since long been engaged in anti-China splittism and hostile sabotage under the banner of so-called “human rights and religion” which have harmed China’s national security and social stability,” said Liu.

As it is hurting New York state and New York City.
