Now we know who is the Democratic VP candidate. All in all, I think it’s a good choice, but just not the game-changer that I think many were expecting.
Biden of course brings experience, which is a nod to the Clinton supporters and adds gravitas to the Dems against McCain who has used his past experience as a strength. He also brings, the needed foreign policy experience that Obama is lacking.
The downside, is that this isn’t necessarily the change Obama is talking about. Having someone who has been in the Senate since 1972 is not someone that will change the way things work in Washington. Having that longevity is not a bad thing, it’s just not living up to the hope and change message that has been pushed by the Obama campaign.
On the whole though, Obama needed a steady hand who knows the ways of Washington. And Biden is the smart choice. He’s not flashy, but then maybe you don’t need flashy to get the job done.
It’s telling that Biden is even getting kudos from Republicans, which is a good sign of a man that isn’t a Cheney-like character.
