T-Shirt Leads To Airplane Controversy

Ok folks chime in with your quotes

Unless you are the one person who has never seen the movie

Careful what you wear on a plane.

Wynand Mullins of New Zealand told Stuff Magazine that he was asked to remove his T-shirt because other airline passengers found it intimidating.

And, yes, we suppose if one weren’t familiar with “The Princess Bride,” seeing a shirt that reads, “Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die,” might be a little alarming, especially on board a plane. But in Mullins’s defense: Who the heck hasn’t seen “The Princess Bride”?

Hmm…I haven’t 🙁 and that shirt would not have bothered me.

“Prepare to die” on a T-shirt would cause consternation on any public conveyance, I would think. Maybe if the name, instead of Inigo Montoya, was Ahmad Mohammad ali al-Hada it would have had more of an effect. Harder to fit on a T-shirt, but more effective.

  • There is no excuse for not having seen The Princess Bride. No wonder you live in exile. I wouldn’t be surprised if you had six fingers and kept ROUS’s as pets. 🙂

that is funny-sad. thanks Patrick. I saw the Princess bride with a friend two years ago. I’d never seen it before [trust, working several jobs puts movies on the ‘longing list’…] but my friend could lip synch EVERY line. It is apparently so cultisto a film. I can appreciate why those who dont know who Inigo Montoya is, a brave timid bold wonderful soul– could definitely project other motives I think.

I love saying the same lines when my family gets out of line… lol. It always makes my children and grandchildren at first look startled and then we laugh.

I’m sorry some passengers were frightened.

The quote standing without the giants and the kindly grandfather and the beautiful princess and the “impressive clergyman’ == not to forget ‘the ancient booer’…… certainly carries the literal words of a threat.

I think all passengers should be sentenced to watching the film The Princess Bride. It gives insight into old fashioned Yiddish/Jewish senses of humor, as well as its a movie that our congress would do well to emulate in terms of ‘the good guys.’ Besides, people could laugh together… the best medicine.

TO, you made me laugh. T many people have six fingers, you just cant see all of them. ShannonLee… if you have little children, you should see it together. Or if not, see it with a friend. It is a film for the child spirit regardless of people’s actual ages.

Mi nombre es Iñigo Montoya Estés. Usted mató a mi padre. Prepárate a morir.

    Just practicing. lol

    Mr Tidbits,

I have not seen The Princess Bride, but I do have 8 fingers and two thumbs. I also do not keep ROUS’s as pet, but I do have a pet rattlesnake. In the early 80’s I was talking with a Sgt. from the Federales[gringo term for Mexican Federal Police)and he told me “Kill them all, God will sort the souls”. About 15 years later I saw a T-shirt in Miami Fla. with that saying on it, with a picture of a skull with cowboy hat on. IMHO in dealing with the Mexican Federal Police, what he said is what he meant. By the way, the Mexican Federal police are one of the best org. in the world, no matter how they are talked about in the press.

There are people who have not seen The Princess Bride?! INCONCEIVABLE!

  • “There are people who have not seen The Princess Bride?! INCONCEIVABLE!”

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I particularly enjoyed the character, Vizzini, the self-described criminal genius played by Wallace Shawn.

If he were on the plane he might have said:

“And YOU: friendless, brainless, helpless, hopeless! Do you want me to send you back to where you were? Unemployed, in Greenland?”

    Anybody want a peanut?

Also: I have a similar shirt. Note to self: do not wear on a plane.
