Our political Quote of the Day comes from an unnamed aide to Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Yesterday we saw President Barack Obama and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie put the campaign aside and work on problem solving without posturing. You’d think that Romney aides talking to reporters would simply acknowledge it and move it on. But instead we see via The New York Daily News a quote that puts on full display the smelliness of American partisanship, how everything has to be a talking point or reflect sour grapes if something portrays the other side as anything as in the worst light:
“It’s a good news day for the President,” a top Romney adviser admitted, “but people think anybody else in that position would do the same thing
The first part of the quote would have reflected the spirit shown by Christie and Obama. The second part — unfortunately — reflects the whole tenor of the Romney campaign.
