Obama Campaign Ridicules Mitt Romney’s Flip-Flop On Status of Some Undocumented Immigrants

The Obama campaign is ridiculing Mitt Romney’s change on the status some undocumented immigrants granted a reprieve by an executive order from President Obama, saying his “immigration pivot raises more questions than it answers.”

“Romney’s latest immigration pivot raises more questions than it answers. He still has not said whether he would continue the administration’s policy that provides a temporary reprieve from deportation for young people who were brought here through no fault of their own,” said Gabriela Domenzain, director of Hispanic press for the Obama campaign.

News of Romney’s position on the work permits came after a slew of Democratic Senators touted a new report from the liberal Center for American Progress highlighting economic benefits of legislation known as the DREAM Act that would give a path to citizenship to many of the same people eligible for visas under the deferred action policy. Romney is waving a white flag because Obama is trouncing him among Hispanic voters, like he is among black voters.  The impreMedia-Latino Decisions tracking poll found 73 percent of those polled would vote for President Obama if the election were held today, compared to  21 percent for Romney. So, trust me, this new position Romney is taking isn’t coming from a place of love in his heart, but from a place of desperation.

The GOP, in particular the Tea Party folks of the GOP, have essentially spent all their time talking about minorities in one of the following terms:

    1) Illegals who need to be deported
    2) Lazy welfare sucking ne’er do wells
    3) Implying they all vote democrat so they can better do #2
    4) Not real Americans like the grandparents of the current crop of white people who were in the same boat 80 years ago as today’s immigrants

They don’t get to make a few conciliatory gestures now and etch-a-sketch their way to a solid GOP turnout from the minorities denigrated by those in the right wing media and elected office. This isn’t a Mitt Romney problem, this is a small tent GOP problem.

Janet – Can you check your percentages again. 71% plus 33% is 104% of Hispanics. This must, according to Republicans, be the voter fraud they are trying to stop – LOL.

Jdledell — LOL. That’s a very funny dig at voter fraud. Thanks for pointing that out. It’s actually 73% to 21%. Thanks again for the heads up.
